On the 20th of June - 2PM - Call to support the demonstration of the residents of Ritsona camp!

The past Sunday, 13th June, a group of people including some of us went to the « open » immigration detention camps of Malakasa and Ritsona. Both are hells in the middle of nowhere, either already circumscribed by concrete walls or in the process of, guarded by fences, in which people who according to international law are entitled to safe living conditions stay for who knows how many months or years, in tents, crowded spaces, without any medical care, and under the supervision and control of the army and private security companies.

In Malakasa, we held a microfoniki in front of the gates of the camp, sharing the text of the anti-racist assembly Solidarity with Migrants and unfurling a multilingual banner with anti-racist and pro-solidarity proposals. The residents seemed interested in our presence and our speech and some came to participate in the rally and share their experiences, while the security guards aggressively tried to keep us away.

In Ritsona, we were able to have an open assembly with people from the many and diverse communities coexisting inside the camp which led to the decision to support their call for a demonstration on the 20th for « World Refugee Day ».

As we see things, there should be no specific day to protest against people on the move's mass incarceration - as the newest Greek migration policies advocate for. There should be no specific day to denounce the sub-standards state-funded living conditions and the institutionalised racist aggressions that people have been facing for years in camps such as Ritsona, Malakasa, Admygdaleza or Moria.

Every day the voices of those who face, endure and protest against the racist systemic violence of the asylum system should be listened to and amplified.

In the face of the adoption of always more far to the right migration policy that sanctions and denies people on the move any form of self-organisation and political participation, we must fight to create and strengthen solidarity bounds and support networks. Whether we are isolated and hidden away in concentration camps around the country or struggling for survival in other ways in urban areas - we struggle for the same basic needs and against the same ennemies:

FOR decent housing and economical conditions, paper regularisation, and unconditional access to education and health care.

AGAINST bureaucracy, racial profiling, social exclusion, police brutality, and border regimes.
