Exarcheia has been a battleground of ideas for decades, a stronghold of resistance for free people, anarchists and refugees and freaks with long hair and big dreams. Today, as every day, they try to clean it. We won't let them. We invite you to gather for a night of poetry and collective rebellion as a gesture of resistance against the violent police occupation of the streets of Exarcheia and the brutal and continued fascist attack coldly orchestrated by the state against the anarchists and refugees and beautiful people of our neighbourhood. In Skala, the beautiful autonomous bar with the staircase on Koletti.

FRIDAY NIGHT. 17/01 930PM. IN SKALA, ON KOLETTI.

POEMS AGAINST THE STATE started in a squat in Athens as a night of poems against repression, poems of resistance, poems of struggle, fight, fire & magic. The idea behind Poems Against The State is that it is not simply a poetry night but a group of like-minded radical people in an autonomous squatted space, organically creating something together even though they have just met. The idea is that it will transcend the 4 walls of the building in which is takes place and become something bigger, less tangible, more electric; a pulse, a dance, a movement. Listen and take hope in the words of others' struggles, free people who write in red or black or dirt who fight the same fight the world over. We hope you might use these words as a means to find the fire in your hand to keep fighting, keep resisting and know in your heart that they will never win. FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIGHT FIRES.
