Την Πέμπτη 21/8 στις 20.30 στην Πλατεία των Προσφυγικών (Κούζη & Βεγορίτιδος) θα προβληθεί το ντοκιμαντέρ "Dope is Death" από τη Δομή Υγείας των Προσφυγικών και θα ακολουθήσει ανοιχτή συζήτηση.

Η περιγραφή του ντοκιμαντέρ:

Το 1973, ο Dr. Mutulu Shakur, μαζί με τους συντρόφους του Black Panthers και τους Young Lords, συνδύασε την υγεία της κοινότητας με τη ριζοσπαστική πολιτική για να δημιουργήσει το πρώτο πρόγραμμα αποτοξίνωσης με βελονισμό στην Αμερική. Αυτή η μορφή ριζοσπαστικής μείωσης της βλάβης ήταν μια επαναστατική πράξη απέναντι στα κυβερνητικά προγράμματα που καθήλωναν τις ζωές των έγχρωμων κοινοτήτων σε όλο το Νότιο Μπρονξ. Το Dope is Death αξιοποιεί ένα πλούσιο αρχείο, ενώ μας δίνει μια εικόνα για το πώς η κλινική βελονισμού έγινε διάσημη και, παρά τις προκλήσεις χρηματοδότησης, εξακολουθεί να λειτουργεί μέχρι σήμερα. Ορισμένοι από αυτούς που επωφελήθηκαν από το πρόγραμμα έγιναν οι ίδιοι βελονιστές. Η κληρονομιά του Dr. Mutulu εδραιώνεται μέσα σε αυτή τη βαθιά ιστορία θεραπείας και αγώνα της κοινότητας.

In 1973, Dr. Mutulu Shakur, along with fellow Black Panthers and the Young Lords, combined community health with radical politics to create the first acupuncture detoxification program in America. This form of radical harm reduction was a revolutionary act toward the government programs that transfixed the lives of black and brown communities throughout the South Bronx. Dope is Death utilizes an abundant archive while giving us insight into how the acupuncture clinic rose to prominence and, despite funding challenges, still functions to this day.
